Roo Hoo’s Boutique
Pop Up Front Porch Pick up! When in a stay at home order with kids, who isn’t looking for fun DIY kits (that also support a local business)? After about 5 days over 40 nightlight kits were ordered through her Pop Up! Roo Hoo’s was blown away!
From Roo Hoo’s Boutique owner “Thank you Heather for such an amazing idea, and doing all you do for our community! You are truly an inspiration!”
Threads of Change - Socks & Underwear
Through a collaboration between The Junior League of Reading, Threads of Change, and our amazing local Boscov’s Department Store we surpassed our goal of collecting 200 pairs of socks and underwear for Threads of Change to give Foster Children their own new pairs to own!
Family Promise of Berks - Towel Drive
“A clean towel & shower are one of the many services we offer to homeless youth & families experiencing homelessness.” Explained Elise Chesson, Executive Director at Family Promise of Berks County. After thinking about that for a day, I knew I had to jump in and create an easy campaign to educate our community how a new clean towel and washcloth would make a difference for local families in need. With the help of the Home Builders Association and my amazing Do It Local Groupies, we managed to collect over 200 towels and wash clothes in 3 short weeks!
Enersys & United Way’s Family Meal Curbside Fundraiser
We fed over 320 people delicious dinners from 4 locally owned restaurants! The hundreds of dollars of food paid to the restaurants plus the hundreds of dollars for EnerSys’ United Way Campaign was a remarkable achievement! We not only gave back to the community, but also gave business to local restaurants when they needed it most! This was the beginning of the current project “Family Meal Popups” that is now spreading all throughout Neighborhoods in the Wilson, Governor Mifflin, Wernersville, Wyomissing, and Exeter Communities.
I successfully sold just over $8,000 in gift cards in a few weeks in March 2020 when the Global Pandemic forced restaurants and most small businesses to close. These funds help business pay bills while the government prepared loan options.
Threads of Change - Suitcase Drive
“Local foster kids move from home to home looking for their forever home. Most of them pack up their few belongings in trash bags when they relocate. We could really use some gently used suitcases for our kids.” Explained Angi, Executive Director & Founder of Threads of Change (a donation store that allows foster kids to shop at no cost for items of their own.) The Do It Local Team & Members worked together (right before the Pandemic) to collect enough suitcases, duffle bags, and book bags to ensure all the kids that shop at Threads of Change had a travel bag. No more trash bags needed!
